Authorities believe the alleged plot dates back to 2021 and included efforts to surveil Avery while he was living in Hawaii. Investigators say members of the Gonzalez family sought photographs or videos of the singer smoking or drinking that could potentially be used against him in custody proceedings. One alleged communication included Francisco Gonzalez writing, “Call Barca … never too early,” which investigators believe referred to Dustin Barca. Authorities allege Gabbie Gonzalez and her friend Kai Cordrey later attempted to recruit Barca to threaten Avery. 5 Authorities believe the alleged murder-for-hire plot dates back to 2021. Gabbie and Francisco Gonzalez and Cordrey have each been charged with one count of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and solicitation of murder.
