Read our Privacy notice President Trump has made a point of releasing UFO-related materials to the public , but if little green men ever visit Earth they’re unlikely to care much about our politics or who is in the White House, according to one of the president’s advisors on UFOs. “If someone arrives from the vast expanses of interstellar space, recognizing how humans divided up territory on Earth is a very low priority for them,” Avi Loeb, who leads the administration’s Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) Science Advisory Council, told AlterNet this week. “They wouldn't care about the United States, and they wouldn't care who its president is.” At the same time, Loeb said, if aliens were discovered or contacted during the Trump administration, that would define the president’s legacy forever. “Obviously, for a president, it would be a great boon if, during his term, we discovered we're not alone — that we have a neighbor in our cosmic environment,” Loeb, a Harvard University physicist, told the outlet. “That kind of discovery would be remembered millions of years into the future. It's not like a dispute with another nation, which in a century will likely be forgotten. This would be a major discovery that shapes the future of humanity.” The advisory council, announced in June, is part of the Trump administration’s larger effort to disclose more information about UAPs. Aliens wouldn’t care who was in the White House, according to Trump’s UFO advisor, despite the president’s efforts to explore UFOs ( AP ) So far, the Pentagon has released five tranches of information to the public, though the materials have not revealed any new, definitive evidence of extraterrestrial life or technology. Instead, the releases consist of records tied to a mix of recent and decades-old mysterious encounters. The administration is also working on a process to encourage government whistleblowers with information about UAPs to come forward without fear of violating non-disclosure agreements or other secrecy obligations. Loeb’s selection as leader of the UAP advisory effort was somewhat controversial. Despite his lengthy tenure as a top physicist, he has faced criticism from other scientists who have argued he has made premature claims about the possibility of alien life. "I don't know what's going to come of this, but we're not going to get any closer to answering these questions with him in charge," Steve Desch, an Arizona State University astrophysicist, told The Associated Press in June. Loeb, whose team has requested that the Pentagon declassify various UAP-related materials , has said he’s starting from the assumption that UAPs encountered around Earth are man-made phenomena until proven otherwise.
